19 MAY 2017: Princess Cruises has confirmed that three employees were taken into custody when the Island Princess was set to leave from Vancouver to Alaska. Canada Border Services and the Vancouver Police Department’s Canine Unit performed a search on the ship and are said to have discovered an undisclosed quantity of drugs.

The CBSA was conducting a vessel search as is routine at Canada Place last week.

The search delayed the departure by two hours but Brian O’Connor, vice president of public relations for Princess stated that it would not disrupt the itinerary.

He emphasized, that none of the cruise ship's guests were involved and the Princess’ policy of zero tolerance for drugs would likely mean that the staff members would lose their jobs.

"The CBSA routinely conducts vessel searches – it is a regular part of officer duties," communication officer Kristine Wu told CTV News.
